Message from Anita Wilson concerning shoes for Afghan women.  Check your closets.  Bring shoes to the
choir room.  We will collect May 25 and June 1.  Thank you.
"I think that tennis shoes would be the best choice, maybe stay away from white(memory purposes)but they will wear white if they have nothing else to wear.  Another great choice and probably the cheapest is rubber
slickers.  This place gets very muddy and the rubber boots can be worn winter and summer.  Summer by themselves and winter over worn shoes or heavily wrapped feet.  It gets below -10F here and they have lots of
snow.  I know that we think, rubber slickers are not very fashionable footwear, but here it is more of a neccesity than fashion statement. Remember also, that the women here are very small.  But the bottom line is that we are greatful for everything that is donated. Flip flops are also better than nothing as they do have a lot of broken glass laying around."

"Bernard & Peggy, B. G., Ginny & Megan Edwards -  (see email from Ginny)
Megan is home from the hospital and doing very well!  She is such a trooper!  :)  She was in surgery from about 12:15 to 12:45, then was moved to recovery, and was later released around 2 pm.  We were only at the hospital for about three hours.  The Pediatric Surgeon met with us right after her surgery.  He told us he removed her two large lymph nodes and also had to remove more surrounding lymph nodes.  He removed the red, swollen skin that had been stretched over the front lymph node (which had been trying to push through her skin) because he felt it would not heal properly if he left it.  The front lymph node was necrotic and filled with a "cheesy" substance, which the Pediatric Surgeon believes indicates infection.  They will run tests on the tissue that was removed and we should get the results within a week.  When we first saw her in the recovery area, she was groggy and a little upset, but she began improving, so they let us take her home about an hour later.  She has really perked up in the last two hours and seems to be back to herself.  She is playing, talking and eating like normal!  We are amazed at how resilient she is!!  BG and I are exhausted!  We are so very thankful things went so well today.  We are so grateful for all your prayers, thoughts, and kind words.  It has been so comforting to know we have your support.  We will keep you updated!

Love,
Ginny, BG and Megan Edwards"
