First Baptist Church was organized on August 30, 1891 in Tryon, NC.  Mr. and Mrs. T.T. Ballenger, the David Fosters, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Pace and the T.R. Justices were charter members.  A small, white frame  building with a steeple was built to house the congregation.  Later a parsonage was erected and throughout the years better equipped worship and educational space was provided.  From early and rather meager beginnings, the First Baptist Church has grown to its current membership and occupies attractive facilities in the town of Tryon.
